New CAG sworn in

Shashikant Sharma was sworn in today as Comptroller and Account General of India (CAG).  The swearing in ceremony was conducted by the President of India Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Shashikant Sharma previously served as the Defence Secretary.  He replaced Vinod Rai of Bihar cader IAS officer whose tenure was over yesterday due to his superannuation.

Some officers by their actions and straight forward way of discharging responsibilities and integrity not only become popular but also the department they work for also gets popularity.  Vinod Rai did not worked as an accountant alone to record the financial events of the Government.  He also made certain observations that brought out irregularities at high places among which 2G scam, Coal allotments scam got prominence.  The same way Election Commissioner T.N.Seshan made the Election Commission office popular among the commoners by bringing awareness and by bringing some electoral reforms and by implementing election model code.

Shashikant Sharma joined as CAG when his predecessor was under attack by the Government for bringing out presumptive losses and going beyond his limitations as auditor and going in to the act of analyzing the Government procedures and policies if it is an indication to him not to cross line.

Shashikant Sharma's tenure will last till 24th September 2017 as per his service.
