A tantric baba residing at Govindpuri in South Delhi was arrested for raping a child of 10 years.  The 71 years baba Kanulal was approached by a woman whose daughter was suffering from acute head ache for some time for a tantric remedy.  

Baba gave the mother an assurance that he would do the best and asked her to stay out leaving the girl in the room.  As the innocent mother believed baba’s words stayed out and the opportunity was utilized by Baba to satisfy his long leashed wish on a child who is not even mature enough for a physical contact.

On the complaint received the child was clinically tested that confirmed an assault on her.  The baba was arrested and he will certainly be punished but what about the child’s mental agony and phobias that may settle in her mind about the male folk and the marriage?

The rape cases and violence against children and women in the Capital became a never ending tale.  Why it is high in Delhi that too South Delhi in particular?  Why people still believe babas for remedies and even if they do why do they believe so much to leave the sight?

In majority of the rape cases, the incidents are happening when the known persons are trusted.  A threat thus not only exists at an unknown place from an unknown person but also from the known persons at known place too.   We have a culture of respecting elders especially over 60s.  But now a situation came that even a person cannot be trusted by his/her age.   A survey on eve teasing cases in Delhi sometime back revealed that 70% of them were middle aged and married holding responsible positions in their occupation.  

A study of these cases is a need of the day to arrest the incidents not arresting the culprits after the incident takes place.
