A study of British and Canadian scientists at the University of Southampton School of Ocean and Earth reveals that a much more devastating tsunami than expected earlier is in store.  The tremors may be experienced at the west side of the Indian Ocean that is beneath the Arabian sea which is called Makran subduction zone that may cause disaster of the same magnitude as it did in Sumatra in 2004, the study says.   

Subduction zones are the dangerous places as they are the points where different plates of the Earth that will try to adjust which may cause them collide with each other that may also cause one plate go beneath the other.  The movement causes the sea beds to displace sea water in large quantities that comes to Earth as a Tsunami.  

The 2004 Tsunami with a magnitude of 9.1 killed about 230,000 people and displaced many.  The research shows that the Makran subduction zone is potential for earth quakes to the magnitude of 8.7 to 9.2 which the researchers say was under estimated previously.  

When the Earth quake at Makran subductions happens its devastating impact will be on the coastal areas of India, Iran, Pakistan and Oman.
