Race for the grace of God

Stampede in the devotional places are reported from many pilgrim places in Andhra Pradesh and also from Uttar Pradesh. Two were killed and many got wounded in the frenzy followed by the queue breakers in Lodheswar Mahadev Temple in Uttar Pradesh to offer Abhishekam water to the deity. At many places in Andhra Pradesh also devotees thronged Shiva temples today being Shivaratri.

Mixing devotion with greed is mostly happens to be the cause of problems at devotional places. A devotee as the name suggests should have total devotion towards the deity he/she worships. Devotion includes the adaption of the qualities of that particular deity.

Shiva is described with the qualities of love, happiness, austerity, patience and determined to do good for the mankind. He had shown haste only to help others but not to grab from others. The devotees instead of spending the time at a temple with calm and understanding engrossed in the feeling of presence of the deity there, they usually indulge in the race for the grace of God. It is that attitude that makes a problem in managing the crowd in a temple on special occasions. Devotees in Hindu temples compete only for two things. One is darshan and another one is getting prasadam.

In the meanwhile police have a tough time in the back drop of recent bomb blast at Hyderabad followed by fresh alerts received from intelligence authorities.
