Warangal city, which is ruled by Kakatiya dynasty once, has now got international recognition as UNESCO identified this city as World Heritage City. With Hyderabad already bagging the world heritage city tag, Kakatiya Heritage Trust has jumped into the race of applying to UNESCO for the identification of this city as world heritage place. Accordingly, a list was prepared to which the trust added four structures—100 pillar temple, Warangal Fort, Ramappa temple and Ghanpur temples. The dossier, which was ready was sent to UNESCO and today UNESCO reportedly added Warangal to list of world heritage places.
It may be recalled that erstwhile emperors of Kakatiya dynasty ruled this place and built many temples. Their reference also appears in many ancient books. History has it that Kakatiyas first ruled Hyderabad area Golconda (Golla-Konda: meaning sheperd's hill) in 11th century wherein they even built a mud fort. Later Qutub Shahis occupied that place and built a fortified wall (Golconda Fort). After this, they reportedly moved to Warangal. Anyway, it's a matter of pride for the country that one more city got tagged as world heritage place.
