6 NRI s get awards for community service

A body consisting of several Indian American associations, National Federation of Indian American Associations (NFIA) has grandly felicitated six persons besides three organizations for contributing to the welfare of the community. Held on Saturday, it was a gathering of talent, intellect and personality. While Sahara TV, India Abroad and Indo-American Centre of Chicago bagged the awards, the individuals who received the awards include Nitin Shah (hospitality), Sid Gautam (entrepreneurship), Dr Hemant Patel (medicine), Dr Najma Sultana (community service), Harikrishna Majumdar (community service) and Rathna Kumar (performing arts).

It was at the 17th biennial convention of NFIA, these awards were handed over. Apart from hailing people and giving away awards, the convention was looking into the issues, which were being faced by the Indian Americans. It may be noted that NFIA was set up 1980, and since then the association conducted several conventions and brought Indian Americans on to one platform.
