Scarcity and bad quality of seeds results in chaos, one farmer dies of stroke

The state farmers have been burdened with another epidemic and that is bad quality of seeds. In a bizzare incident in Krishna district, one farmer died of heart stroke say sources. The farmer who sowed corn seeds in his farm found that the seedlings did not sprout out due to bad quality. Unable to bear the loss the devastated farmer lost his control and died of a heart stroke.

While on one side the bad quality was a issue on the other side scarcity of seeds has gripped the state. At Adilabad on Sunday farmers gathered in large numbers and protested against the sacrcity of seeds at the government depots. In Mamada village farmers visited the societies to collect the seeds, and as they learned that the seeds were scarce agitated.

The state is mainly dependent on the agrarian economy since times immemorial. Earlier the farmers used to store a part of the crop to make seeds. These seeds were utilised by them for the next season and this was cyclic. Though the returns were lower the guaranteed growth was definate, along with abundance. But after the hybrid seeds on a brand name entered the situation turns different.  In addition to mounting costs of the fertilisers and natural calamities, farmers are left to fend for themselves against the new problem also that arises out of bad quality and scarcity of seeds.
