CBI urges Jagan custody, claims could tamper evidence

Before the verdict on the bail plea of the incarcerated YSR Congress Party Leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was to be issued the CBI expressed fears that evidence could be tampered. CBI appealed to the Special CBI court in Nampally that custody of the Kadapa MP be granted for investigating the case further. On Friday CBI informed that if the leader was granted bail then there is every possible chance of the evidence being tampered. They also admitted that the investigating agency had handled the issue appropriately, owing to the high profile nature of the case.

Meanwhile the Directorate of Enforcement filed an appeal to the court to grant the copies of the CBI charge-sheets. The ED in its appeal wanted a copy of the charge-sheet no 2 and 3 filed by the CBI in the Jagan Disproportionate assets case.  It may be noted ED wanted to question Jagan on the funds flowing from the companies of Vanpic, Bharathi, Carmel and other companies into the companies of owned by him.

ED had registered a case under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) 2002 against Jagan and is also probing alleged contravention of foreign exchange rules in his financial transactions and investments. The ED action has come after the CBI had registered a case against Jagan and had searched various premises belonging to him. ED has conducted a probe to trail the funds pumped by Jagan and his associates into the companies owned by them. They had also questioned a few officials of Jagan owned companies in this regards.
