400 thatched houses were reduced to ashes in a major fire accident at Pallam village in Katreni Kona Mandalam of East Godavari district this morning.
The residents of the houses which were gutted in the fire have been made to sit on the roads in the open in the sun. Senior officials have rushed to the spot. Nearly 2000 people were rendered homeless.
“We have lost everything including our clothes,” one of the residents said weeping. “Government should come to our rescue,” he said. “We need at least temporary shelter.”
The reasons for the fire accident are not known and police said they are investigating. (JUBS)
