Mega star and Tirupati MLA Chiranjeevi said today he would strive for the welfare of the journalists’ community in the state.

Giving away prizes to the winners of journalists sports meet at Tirupati Press Club this evening, Chiranjeevi went nostalgic about the 2009 elections and said it was some journalists who saved his life when he was subjected to attacks during those days.

“I know police remained as mute spectators when I was attacked by some elements with ulterior motives during the campaigning days but I won’t forget that journalists came to my rescue,” he said emotionally, adding they saved his life.

Chiranjeevi said journalists are always under pressure due to the nature of their work and participation in sports’ activities would go a long way in strengthening their fitness.

“Government is formulating an action programme for the welfare of the journalists,” he said, promising he would also strive in his individual capacity for their welfare. (JUBS)
