Indian army to escort Lord Balaji to Katmandu

Special teams of the Indian army will escort the idol of Lord Balaji (Utsava Murthy) when it will be taken to Katmandu for performing the Lord’s Kalyanotsavam on Feb 25, according to highly placed sources.

Once the deity arrives on the Nepali land, Nepali army will provide security for the most revered Lord’s idol. Immediately after the Kalyanam, the deity will be taken back to the Tirumala temple again with the security cover provided by the Indian army.

Army has agreed to provide security to the deity during its transportation after the TTD officials have agreed for the first time in the known history of the famed Tirumala temple to send the Utsava Murthy to Nepal for performing the Lord’s wedding festival.

85 per cent of the Nepali population is dominated by Hindus and there has been a long pending demand from the country’s scholars that Tirumala Balaji Kalyanotsavam should be performed in Katmandu.

The newly formed Shree Tirupati Balaji Wedding Festival Main Celebration Committee of Katmandu will conduct the Kalyanotsavam of the Lord at the sprawling grounds of Open Air Theatre in Kathmandu on Feb 25. The most auspicious programme is likely to be attended by lakhs of Hindu devotees.

TTD officials and the army have kept the details of the transportation of the deity highly secret for security purposes. Though the Kalyanam will take place on Feb 25, it is not known when the deity will be transported to Katmandu.  (JUBS)
