Budget session takes off on a noisy note

Members of the TRS, TDP, CPI, CPM and BJP walked out of the budget session of Andhra Pradesh Legislature on its first day today raising objections to the Governor ESL Narasimhan’s customary speech.

Even as Narasimhan began reading out from his 40-page prepared text, the TDP members protested observing that the Governor failed to dismiss corrupt ministers and the government failed to address issues of public concern.

While the TRS members protested for not mentioning the demand for separate Telangana state in the Governor’s speech, members of CPI and CPM found fault with the Government for not distributing relief to farmers in the drought-hit areas of the state.

When the Governor began reading his text at 9.30 am in the joint session of Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, TRS members tore away the copies of speech and turned them into paper missiles. When they flung the paper missiles towards the Governor, security men ensured they didn’t reach the Governor.

TRS members asked the Governor to go back for not mentioning the demand for separate Telangana in his text and TDP members thronged the Speaker’s podium raising slogans against the corrupt ministers.

With no one caring for their protests, the opposition members walked out the joint session midway through Governor’s speech and Narasimhan continued his speech later peacefully. The government will present the budget for the financial year 2012-13 on February 17. (JUBS)
