IAS officer BP Acharya arrested

The CBI has arrested senior IAS officer Mr BP Acharya this afternoon for his role in the APIIC-Emaar land scam.

He came for questioning at the CBI make-shift offices at Dilkusha guest house and was grilled for some hours by the sleuths. He was served with an arrest warrant around 3 PM. The CBI’s top officials then took him to produce before the special CBI court at Nampally.

The CBI had earlier filed cases against the IAS officer under sections 120 B read with 420, 409 and 477 A of the IPC for criminal conspiracy, cheating and manipulating agreements with the Emaar Properties during his tenure as the managing director of the APIIC in YSR regime.

He had allowed reduction of the APIIC share in the Emaar operations relieving the agency of its opportunity to earn hundreds of crores of rupees as revenue.

Acharya’s arrest comes four days ahead of the filing of charge-sheet in the case by the CBI.

Acharya is accused number one in the APIIC-Emaar land scam and the fourth person to be arrested in the case. Earlier, the probing agency had arrested Mr Koneru Prasad, Mr Sunil Reddy, a front man of the YSR congress party president Mr YS Jaganmohan reddy and Emaar former employee Mr.Vijya Ragavan . (JUBS)
