Liquor businessmen attacked the former Payakarao pet MLA and TDP leader Mr Chengala Venkata Rao at Nakkapally in Visakhapatnam district during a demonstration today.
Ventaka Rao, accompanied by some TDP leaders and activists, organized a demonstration demanding the wine shop owners to sell liquor at the prescribed MRP only. During the demonstration, some wine shop owners argued with Venkata Rao and TDP activists leading to tension in the area.
The verbal attacks led to a physical assault on Venkata Rao by the wine shop owners and their supporters, according to reports. The former MLA’s vehicle was damaged and some of his supporters were also injured in the attack.
Later, the TDP supporters lodged a police complaint in the local police station demanding action against the wine shop owners who attacked them.
Venkata Rao told journalists despite the warning given by the chief minister Kirankumar Reddy that the licenses of the wine shops selling liquor at more than the prescribed MRP would be cancelled, most of the shops are selling liquor at above the MRP. “We demonstrated peacefully but they attacked us,” he lamented.
