CBI says Gali accumulated Rs. 5194.33 Cr illegally

The CBI special court has accepted the 186-page charge sheet submitted by the CBI in the illegal mining case involving the former Karnataka Minister Mr Gali Janardhan reddy and will begin the trail in the case from Jan 12.

The CBI, which has submitted two bag loads of files and documents along with the charge sheet, informed the court that Gali Janardhan reddy owning the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), has earned Rs.5194.33 Cr through illegal mining.

The charge sheet has alleged that Gali has submitted wrong and false reports on the quality of the iron ore dug out from the mines to mislead the government and carried out illegal mining in the mines surrounding the OMC by threatening their owners.

The charge sheet has also alleged that Gali and his brothers have forced and coerced some of the mining contractors to withdraw their mining lease applications.

“Out of the Rs.5194.33 Cr illegal wealth accumulated by him, Rs. 4310.20 Cr came through exports of iron ore to foreign countries,” said the charge sheet.

CBI charged that Gali and his brother in law Mr BV Srinivasa reddy had forced the Geo Environmental Labs to give a false certificate on the quality of the iron ore mined by the OMC.

The charge sheet said that cases under sections 120 B (for conspiracy), 420 (for cheating), 409 (for betrayal), 468 (for forgery) and 471 (for falsification of papers) of the IPC were registered against Gali Janardhan reddy, his brother in law BV Srinivasa reddy, former director of the mining department Mr Rajagopal, OMC and the late Mr R. Linga Reddy, former assistant director of mining department in Ananthapuram district.

Cases under section 13(2) of the Anti-Corruption Act read with section 13 (1) were also registered against them, said CBI in its charge sheet. The CBI mentioned the number of witnesses as 201. (JUBS)
