Taking advantage of winter nights, burglars raided five temples and walked away with hundi collections and other valuables in three villages of east Godavari district late on Monday night.

According to reports, the priest of the five temples situated in Kesavapalli, Nunavaram and Gudavalli villages, lodged a FIR with the police, saying jewellery and cash from the donation box were missing when they opened the temple gate on Tuesday morning. The thieves would have entered the temples stealthily after midnight and looted the valuables, say villagers. Police are investigating the case.
