The actor-turned-politician and the merged Praja Rajyam Party President Chiranjeevi lamented today at the assembly lobby to the media. He said the PRP MLA’s were not given their due regard, inspite of months after merger. He also added that there was growing dissatisfaction among his followers on this issue.
The PRP president further stated that the present government was stable only because of their support and they were neglecting the issue.
"We have decided to merge the PRP with the Congress. It is in the best interests of the state of Andhra Pradesh... it is an historic occasion for (the state and the two parties)," he told reporters outside Ms. Gandhi's residence, way back in February. The merger between the Congress and the PRP was stated to be a breather for the ruling party facing rebellion from Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and the sensitive Telangana issue.
Being the new entrant to the major politics, the actor, a strong votary of a united Andhra Pradesh, might have felt that things are easy as in the tinsel world. But Congress is politically very aged senior and knows how to lure for garnering power. More to await this is just the beginning. The actor also brings with him a considerable chunk of backward Kapu community votes spread mainly in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, but has only negligible in the Telangana area where a strong separatist movement is currently on.
