Earthquake hits Nicobar Islands

An earthquake of a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale rocked the Nicobar Islands in the wee hours of Thursday.

There are no immediate reports of loss of life or property following the earthquake and the epicenter of the quake was traced at a depth of 1 km. Reports said the cake struck exactly at 1.12 a.m.

Nicobar Islands, integral part of India, are situated in the south-east of the Bay of Bengal and consists of 22 large and small islands, of which only 12 have inhabitants. (JUBS)
