Telugu to get a facelift in Hyderabad

The names of all shops and establishments in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad should be written in Telugu language only henceforth. Mayor Ms. B. Karthika Reddy of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation issued orders today to this effect.

Speaking to media persons in Hyderabad, she said GHMC has decided to accord highest priority to the Telugu language in all administrative matters.

The decision of the GHMC comes as a relief to all Telugu lovers as they rarely find the name plates, name boards, sign boards and publicity boards and advertisements in Telugu in the twin cities.

Reacting to the orders, a social service activist said it is not just enough if the orders are issued. “There should be a proper mechanism to implement the orders efficiently and those who do not follow the orders should be punished,” said Mr Srinivasa Murthy of the Hyderabad Thinkers Forum.
