The Telugu Desam Party today decided not to contest the Banswada by poll in Nizamabad district slated for October 13.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the TDP Telangana Forum leaders this afternoon at the party headquarters in Hyderabad. The meeting was also attended by the party supremo Mr Chandrababu Naidu. The Forum leaders told the party president that it was not advisable to contest the by election at this juncture.
The by poll was necessitated with the resignation of former TDP MLA Mr Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy who quit both TDP and assembly. Pocharam has already filed his nomination papers to contest the election as TRS candidate.
Congress candidate Mr Srinivasa Goud also filed his nomination papers on Friday and expressed the hope he would win the by poll.
The TDP will announce its decision officially in the meeting to be held with the party workers of the Banswada constituency later in the evening.
