The proposed all people’s strike in the Telangana area seeking the separate state of Telangana will take place as scheduled from August 17 and there is no change in the programme.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon in Hyderabad today, Telangana political JAC spokesman Mr Ravinder said there was no truth in the reports in some sections of the media that the strike has been postponed to September 6 in view of the request made by some Muslim scholars to defer the agitation for the sake of Ramjan festival.
Some Muslim preachers submitted a memorandum to the JAC on Thursday seeking the postponement of the strike in view of the Ramjan festival. The Muslim elders requested them to organize the strike after the festival.
The steering committee of the JAC met this morning and discussed the issue and decided not to postpone the strike. “We have rejected their request,” said the spokesman.
