Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and congress president Sonia Gandhi today congratulated the Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogai for leading the congress party towards victory for the third time in the state.

 

Both of them called up the jubilant chief minister over phone and spoke to him extending their wishes.

 

Gogai for his part went to two temples and a church in Gaughati early this morning before counting began and offered prayers seeking favourable results for the congress in the elections. “The Gods have answered my prayers and recognized the work I have done for the people of the state,” he said in Gauhati.
