/images/stories/AWEnglish/may2011/may10/polive.jpgThe Rajahmundry police today registered a case against the town Deputy Mayor, Mr Satyanarayana Prasad under the Anti-dowry and Domestic Violence Acts.

Police registered the case after his wife Sujatha lodged a complaint saying that Mr Prasad has been demanding additional dowry and subjecting her to mental harassment. She said that she married Prasad in 2002 and her parents gave a dowry of Rs.10 lakh in addition to some gold ornaments.

She further said that her husband has been staying with another woman and has not been visiting her for the last eight months. “When I asked him to come home, he said I would not suit him as his wife and this is all resulting in mental harassment to me,” she said in her complaint.

Sujatha also said that her husband had destroyed all their wedding photos but said she had other evidence to prove her marriage with him.
