Thousands throng to see Chiru in Karnataka

chiru-imagePolice today resorted to cane charging when thousands of people, mostly  women and students, thronged to take a look at  mega star and PRP chief Chiranjeevi when he arrived in Bangarupet of Karnataka for congress campaigning in the by election.

People all of a sudden started running and surging forward towards the actor when he alighted from a car at a thoroughfare in Bangarupet forcing police to lati-charge to stop the crowds from going towards him.

The police action resulted in injuries to 20 people. Later police said that they were under orders to provide proper security to the actor and they could not allow people to surge forward towards him in the manner they did.

Chiranjeevi, who began his speech in Kannada, later shifted to Telugu and urged people to vote for the congress. “Congress leadership gave me this responsibility treating me as a national leader. Please elect the congress candidate and give me the victory as a gift to me,” Chiru asked people, adding the congress victory strengthens confidence reposed in him by the party president Sonia.

People listened to Chiru throughout his 40 minute speech in rapt silence appreciating his gestures with clasps in between.
