Selfless in death, life to others

A woman from Hyderabad has shown what true selflessness is. Kalpana Tiwari, aged 41, was declared 'brain dead' after the night of 30th June. On Monday doctors confirmed that she would be in a permanent vegetative state.

She had earlier wished to become an organ donor in the event of death. Her wish was made true by Members of Lions Club of Hyderabad (East) and Mohan Foundation. The foundation is an active participant in the field of organ donation.

Late on 28th June, she had complained of chest pains and soon fell unconscious. Efforts to bring her back had kept her body safe. But her awareness was lost permanently. Kalpana's grieving husband Manoj Tiwari gave his consent for the organ donation process keeping in mind his wife's intentions.

Seven individuals have now gained a new life after her eyes, heart valves, liver and kidneys were donated to various city hospitals.

Noble thoughts such as Kalpana's need not be restricted to just her. Everyone has it inside them to give a fresh lease of life to someone less fortunate. Imagine giving the gift of sight to a blind person. More people are urged to pledge their organs as many are waiting for divine intervention in their lives. Let us spread the goodwill.
