Kids over seven at schools start competing with their peers at several things. The most important topics of their competition would generally be the toys or the dolls they own. The only thing that would come close to their toy collection would be their height. It is common to see two kids who keep comparing who is taller than the others. So, wouldn't it be fun if you built him a scale that will measure his height, a fun activity for the kid while also making the parents wary of how fast their son/daughter is growing.
So, without further delay here are the THINGS YOU NEED
A wooden/carboard board (8" x 6-7 feet long)
A paint finish,
Stencils and stationery
Tape measure
A spirit level
Hammer, nails or tape
How to make the DIY Growth Chart
1. If you are looking at a wooden growth chart, get a board that is 6 or seven feet tall and around 8 inches wide. It is idea if you can have a board that is 1 inch thick so it wont occupy lots of space while it wont be too frail to break in between. Make sure that the wooden board is properly treated for smoothness, splinters and against rotting.
2. For carboard, either find a really big carboard or join a few boards with tape or glue in the desired size as mentioned above.
3. Now that you are done. Find an appropriate decoration theme, and do it as you like. Or you can maintain a minimalistic theme with little bling to it.
4. Take a tape measure and mark out every inch make the "1 foot", "2 feet" markings larger. Half foot marking can be bigger too but smaller than the foot markings.
5. Check the evenness of the surface with a spirit level while you are fixing the board on to the wall. For a wooden board you are required to drive nails in the board into the wall. Alternatively you can have hooks that will hold the board into place.
6. Carboards can be merely stuck to the wall with tape running along the edges.
7. Paste pictures of your kid growing every half feet beside the corresponding marking to keep track of his growth. Write down the day when you took the pictures too to make an interesting display best placed in the kid's bedroom.
