Jagan, trending topic on the national radar

Going with the latest trends on leading online media, yes it is true that the whole nation is looking towards what will happen to Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. Jagan as he is fondly called as by his supporters is the Chief of a regional party YSR Congress named after his father late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy (YSR), the former Chief Minister.

Even ND TV has opened up a live blog for Jagan who is right now being quizzed by the CBI at Hyderabad in the disproportionate assets. He is been alleged to have misused YSR’s power for his benefits. Looking at the anticipation level of the readers, we have furnished the below the material collected from various online sources for reader enrichment, only. With speculations rife that the young leader might be arrested by the CBI, the views of a cross section of media are listed.

The CBI inquiry into Jagan’s business empire and the source of its funds was ordered by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in August 2011.  CBI alleges that when the late YSR was in office, he had abused his power and conspired with the ministers to influence entrepreneurs to invest in his son’s companies for favors from the government.

Enforcement Directorate Angle:

Enforcement Directorate have reached the CBI office in Dilsukha Guest house and shall be questioning Jagan on the issues based on the statement made by Nimmagadda Prasad. They would also question him on the funds flowing from the companies of Vanpic, Bharathi, Carmel and other companies into the companies of Jagan. Earlier ED had sought, the special CBI Court, permission of questioning Jagan.

Late last December the Enforcement Directorate had registered a case under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) 2002 against him and is also probing alleged contravention of foreign exchange rules in his financial transactions and investments. The ED action has come after the CBI had registered a case against Jagan and had searched various premises belonging to him.

The most prominent speculation on the public minds is, will the ED corner the YSRC leader at this point and arrest him for the PMLA case. In such a case the young leader will be taken to the nation’s capital and for further questioning and probably also arrested there. If that is so the impact in the state capital would be a little less feel sources. However everything is based on figs of imagination only and until firm announcements are made nothing could be ascertained.

As per the PMLA act, Offence of money-laundering: Whosoever directly or indirectly attempts to indulge or know¬ingly assists or knowingly is a party or is actually involved in any process or activity connected with the proceeds of crime and projecting it as untainted property shall be guilty of offence of money-laundering.

Punishment for money-laundering.-- Whoever commits the offence of money-laundering shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than three years but which may extend to seven years and shall also be liable to fine which may extend to five lakh rupees: Provided that where the proceeds of crime involved in money-laundering relates to any offence specified under paragraph 2 of Part A of the Schedule, the provisions of this section shall have effect as if for the words "which may extend to seven years", the words "which may extend to ten years" had been substituted.

Communal War:

With the by-polls for 18 constituencies scheduled for June 12 will it be embarrassing for the ruling Congress and the YSR Congress, is a notable question at this point. As the YSR Congress Chief quizzing might bring out many prominent bigwigs names and that could be setback for the Congress. Meanwhile YSR Congress party is turning out to be a Reddy dominated party say sources.

Another community unity is reportedly being witnessed in the state as Jaganmohan Reddy is presumably getting closer to the bars.  Since Jaganmohan Reddy (although a Christian) has ‘Reddy’ tag with his name and this would apparently be sufficient for him drag all Reddys towards his side. Already ex-TDP leader Mysoora Reddy has strongly backed YS Jaganmohan Reddy for which he is being expelled from TDP. He even stated that he would join YSR Congress in a couple of days and he would support Jaganmohan Reddy since Jagan was like his son.  But, people at various tea shops were reportedly discussing that Mysoora Reddy supported Jagan only for community.

Yet another prominent leader of the Congress, YS Vivekanda Reddy too quit the party with which he had been associated for the past three decades. Although he said he left Congress as he was upset with the party for spitting venom on his late brother YSR. It appears like the relationship between Jagan and YS Viveka is playing big at the end...now, he is most likely to join YSR Congress..

Earlier the Bhuma Nagireddy couple quit from Chiranjeevi’s Prajarajyam Party after its merger with Congress and joined the YSR Congress.  (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay & Phani)
