PRP possible revolt - self imposed crisis of Congress

State Congress party’s high handed dealing of PRP MLAs and Chiranjeei  due to possible fear of Chiru’s fame may be causing huge crisis. 17 MLAs belonging to erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party, which merged with Congress, today revolted against the N Kiran Kumar Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh, expressing serious displeasure over the manner in which they were being treated by the ruling party.

The rather unexpected development came on a day when the Assembly took up for discussion the no-confidence motion moved by the main opposition Telugu Desam Party. Till date, absolutely nothing is given to PRP or Chiranjeevi in return of PRP merger with Congress. It is first time in Indian politcal history a party merged unconditionally as well as not gotten any benifit of merger.

"It is because of our support that the Kiran Kumar Reddy government is surviving. We have lent it support at a most critical time but now nobody in the government is caring a damn about us," the MLAs reportedly told Chiranjeevi at the meeting.

Chiranjeevi endorsed their views and reportedly said the Congress high command failed to keep any of the promises it gave him at the time of merger.

Compounding the woes of Congress, 21 of its MLAs loyal to Jaganmohan Reddy, the Kadapa MP, announced his party members would vote in favour of the no-confidence motion even if they faced disqualification.

"We have decided to abide by the decision of our leader Jagan. We are not bothered about who moved the no-trust motio....we will vote for it since farmers of the state have been left in the lurch by this government", Congress MLA Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose told newsmen at the end of their meeting with Jagan this evening.

Two senior ministers reportedly tried to talk to the 17 MLAs to do some damage control.

Tirupati MLA and film actor K Chiranjeevi, who was the founder-president of PRP, acknowledged his group of MLAs was "totally unhappy" about what had been happening with them.

Kiran Kumar with no image in the public became Chief Minister with Center appointment. Chrianjeevi’s PRP  polled more than 18% of the votes in the state which can swing Governement formation. In addition, Chiranjeevi is only leader who is known through out the state with his own following, party workers. If one has to compare any one with Chiranjeevi there is no other leader kown to public state wide and a similar crowd puller. With all these fears, to make sure that he is projected as “powerless” a serious political game is played downplaying his MLAs. All along all the PRP MLA’s with full obedience and respect to Chirnajeevi bitten the bullet and took insults and are expressing their concern agony at right time.

If Government falls with this ciris, one has to blame the present Congress leaders who brought this crisis with selfish fears not respecting the promises made.

Botsa Satyanarayna, Congress state chief has already met with Chiranjeevi and PRP MLAs discussing the issues raised by MLAs. Even State incharge Azad too talked to Chiranjeevi over phone. All efforts are being put by Botsa to overcome this crisis.

What happens if 17 PRP MLAs, Jagan’s 21 MLAs, TDP’s 86 MLAs and TRS’s  12 MLAs and 4 CPA&CPM MLAs making a total of  about 140  in support of “NO CONFIDENCE MOTION” introduced by TDP? Let us wait and watch.
