Placement drive in Tihar jail, 142 inmates get job

A novel initiative by the Prison authorities will definitely unleash a new life, to the Tihar jail inmates. The novel initiative made 142 prisoners get job with good pay packages.

Prison must be a place for an individual to attain transformation and leave his sinful past behind the cellar walls. True but most prisoners resort to old means after being treated as castaways by the society. Such an outcome is precarious for the society at large. But we do not realize our folly when we do not trust them. But the scene at the Tihar Jail, which holds many VVIPs too, was different. The jail authorities encouraged companies to conduct job drives to encourage inmates to join main stream of activity, after repenting for their crimes. The novel initiative was conducted by the fourth time on Friday, saw nearly 142 inmates good jobs with salary tags ranging between Rs.7,000 to Rs.30,000. Remarkably, 13 of them were women. The maximum earners were Shahil Gulati, Hemant Kumar and Mohammed Ashif. `They were hired by Career Craft,’ said Tihar spokesperson Sunil Gupta. At this moment one saying by the father of the nation is to be remembered, `hate the crime and not the criminal.’

On Friday, five companies - Career Graft, Future Mason, Vedanta Foundation, Frontline and Ikaya Global - interviewed the inmates . The drive, organized by Vedanta Group, also saw participation from inmates of Rohini Jail. Frontline, which is into assets management and security, hired the maximum number - 60, while Ikaya Global, Career Crafts, Future Mason and Vedanta Foundation extended job offers to 21, 22, 14 and 25 inmates.

Globally, India ranks 5th in prison population. More than 4 lakh prisoners are lodged in nearly 1336 prisons in India. The reforms and the rehabilitation of the people in prisons have been discussed on multiple platforms. The VEDANTA Foundation project for the prison inmates starts with understanding the mindset of the inmate and maps them to appropriate skill development training. The Vocational Training Programs for these inmates are majorly focused on developing Computer and Tailoring skills, keeping in mind the employment/self employment opportunities it offers. The trainers for these have been pre-groomed to understand the difficulties faced by the inmates and hence the delivery of training is absolutely revered. The inmates are treated like any other students and undergo the usual process of evaluation and certification on completion of training. Ultimately this leads them to the mainstream of the society and with their skill levels the society is able to absorb them.

One cannot stop appreciating the noble gestures of the Jail Authorities and the recruiting companies too. Kudos to all the noble souls!! These people wish to revamp the lives of the otherwise miserable souls and help them regain confidence in themselves while leading a decent life.  Wishesh Team folds its hands in reverence!!!      (With inputs from internet-AarKay)
