India has become one of the major corporate hub attracting many other nations towards it. Although despite providing wide range of employment opportunities, it has been leading to dangerous health disorders. 42.5% of Indian corporate employees are suffering with depression or general anxiety disorder due to demanding schedules of their jobs which involve high-stress levels and performance-linked perquisites. It was revealed by as survey conducted by ASSOCHAM.
The study report is based on the views of 1, 250 corporate employees from 150 companies across 18 broad sectors like IT/ITeS, financial services, engineering, telecom, FMCG, real estate, infrastructure, media, telecom, education, manufacturing and advertising, among others. It was concluded that almost all the major cities employees are suffering from depression or general anxiety disorder. Delhi is the first ranked city which is preceded by other metro cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Pune.
The study stated that the depression rate has been increased to 45-50 percent in last eight years. Assocham Secretary General D S Rawat responded and predicted the reason for corporate employees to add pressure on their health could be to sustain in the stiff global environment. The other reasons for this condition could poor sleep habit, dependence of caffeine and tobacco, alcoholism and party culture, pollution, noise, working in shifts and more.
The increasing diseases could definitely affect the IT sector. So, the companies must takeĀ health sector of the employees into concern to bring down this increased disease rate.
