Operation Valentine Story
Operation Valentine tells the tale of Arjun, also known as Rudra, a skilled Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force who specializes in testing Fighter Aircrafts. However, he carries the weight of a painful history. The movie revolves around the Pulwama attack of 2019 and the Indian Air Force's mission for vengeance. Operation Valentine Analysis
It takes courage to make a film based on real events. The audience already knows the facts from various sources, so presenting it with creative liberties is a bold task. These kinds of films require an emotional connection and a realistic narrative. However, Operation Valentine falls short in terms of an engaging and authentic storytelling. Despite the emotional aspect, the film lacks an interesting portrayal. The nation is well aware of the Pulwama attacks, but the film fails to deliver a gripping presentation. The love story lacks intrigue and the chemistry between the main actors does not resonate with the audience.
Rudra's character has a troubled past, but it is overly prolonged. Despite Rudra's attempts to remind the audience of his history, it fails to make a connection. From the very beginning, Operation Valentine fails to captivate the audience. However, the action sequence in the middle of the film, set in the sky, is well-designed and presented. Rudra finds himself in a fighter jet during the Pulwama attack, and the real story begins as he and his team devise a plan for revenge.
The entire second half of Operation Valentine takes place in the air, depicting the Indian Air Force's attack on Pakistani camps in a convincing manner.However, the remaining episodes cause significant perplexity for viewers. The Radar Display episodes mimic a gaming spectacle in the heavens, leaving the audience genuinely bewildered regarding the events unfolding in the latter half. Operation Valentine appears as an interminable aerial skirmish, with Rudra's prominence and persona exaggerated to an extent that fails to captivate the audience. While this approach may suit an action-packed movie, it does not align with the intention of a film based on real-life occurrences.
Performance
Varun Tej is a perfect fit for the role of Rudra, a Commander in the Indian Air Force. His body language is ideal for the character, and he executes his role flawlessly. Throughout the second half, Varun Tej effectively conveys emotions through his eyes, even while wearing a mask in the fighter jet. Manushi Chillar's character has a significant presence on screen, although she has limited opportunities to showcase her talent. The film features a multitude of supporting actors, but their roles lack prominence.
Technically, Operation Valentine is an average film. The production values are constrained, and the visual effects could have been better. The shortcomings of the weak VFX work are apparent in most parts of the film. The background score, composed by Mickey J Meyer, is satisfactory, but the songs go unnoticed. The dialogues are well-written. While the director has conducted thorough research for the film, it is their lackluster presentation and narration that ultimately disappoints in Operation Valentine. The excessive use of technical terminology from the Indian Air Force may not resonate with a wide audience. The director should consider the perspective of the viewers when presenting an episode, ensuring that emotions are effectively conveyed and resonate with the audience. The director's shortcomings were evident in Operation Valentine.
