Apple iPhone 6 & 6s Plus Price Drop in India

As Apple users in India gear up for the launch of its latest flagship iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in October, the company has slashed prices for its previous flagship series - iPhone 6s and 6s Plus by up to Rs 22,000.

It’s not the first time that Apple has offered such price cuts after releasing a new device in the Indian market. When the company released the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, the earlier models had received a significant price cut.

Now as the new devices start shipping next month, Apple (India) page has listed the iPhone 6s (128GB) at Rs 60,000, which was available for a hefty Rs 82,000 earlier. The bigger iPhone 6s Plus (128GB) will be slightly more expensive at Rs 70,000. Both the smartphones have received a massive price cut of Rs 22,000.

Not only the 6s and 6s Plus but Apple’s iPhone SE has also got a price cut, fairly early, considering the fact that it was launched earlier this year. The 64GB version of the iPhone SE will now retail at Rs 44,000 as against its original price of Rs 49,000.

This price cut strategy is significant for the company to make more profits. In India, Apple’s penetration rate is quite low due to the unavailability locally-resourced goods. As a counter-measure, Apple offers discounts on previous flagships to get more people to use their products.

Though the price cuts come as a huge boost for people looking to upgrade, the company has cunningly removed the 64GB option for previous flagship models, in order to increase demand for the 128GB variants.

Both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will arrive in India on October 7 but pre-orders for the devices have not yet begun. This, however, hasn’t stopped some third-party dealers to accept pre-bookings for the devices.

The company said the iPhone 7 will retail at Rs 60,000 but there is no official confirmation on the price of the bigger variant.
