Mumbai Indians still hope for Playoffs

Mumbai Indians [MI] hope to make it through the Playoffs as they defeated Kings XI Punjab yesterday. MI batsman Lendl Simmons scored a ton which guided the team to the victory side.

Punjab were put into bat by MI captain Rohit Sharma as he won the toss. Unfortunately they did not make a good start with Sehwag run out. But in Vohra and Marsh batted quite well however just when they were looking to score more runs, MI bowlers removed them in quick succession. Maxwell again failed while captain Bailey scored few boundaries and tried his best to push the scoreboard. Wickets falling at regular intervals hurt Punjab from scoring runs and in the end they posted a total of 156 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

Chasing the total, it was all a one man show. Simmons and Hussey opened the innings but it was Simmons who got maximum strike. He blasted all the Punjab bowlers to all corners of the ground and made easy for the rest of MI batsmen to relax. Though suffering with an ankle pain, Simmons continued to bat and in 61 balls he scored his debut century in IPL. MI chased 157 runs with one over to spare.

Score details: Kings XI Punjab: 156/8, Bailey 39, Bumrah 2/31

                        Mumbai Indians: 158/3, Simmons 100, Patel 1/27
