India repeats debacle, Batsmen let down team, Australia wins first test

India again shows bad batting form and lost first test match at MCG. Bowlers brought back Team India after the first innings, but batsmen fail to sustain.

Australia win by 122 runs over India in the first test of the series at Melbourne Cricket Grounds, Melbourne. The debacle was mainly due to bad show by the batsmen on the fourth day of play today. Australia which made 333 runs in the first innings followed it with a 240 runs in the second innings. Trailing by 51 runs in the first innings, as India just made 282. Even in the second innings India could not avoid the fall out and just scored 169 runs and lost the match. In spite of big names in the squad, Team India could not keep up to the expectations of the fans at Melbourne.

It was James Pattinson of Australia who claimed 4 wickets along with his team mate Siddle who grabbed another three to finish the Indian batting lineup. For India, there was nothing much to talk, with Sachin and Ashwin the only players getting decent scores of 32 and 30 respectively. In the end Umesh Yadav’s 21 from 25 balls was worth mentioning. The young lads were shining while the seniors succumb.

Pattinson who claimed six wickets totally in the match was awarded the man of the match, though Ben Hilfenhaus claimed seven totally. The Australian dressing room must be rejoicing after the win. Another bad display of talents by the Indian batsmen put Team India down. (AarKay)
