Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Murli Deora passed away in Mumbai on Monday morning after prolonged illness. He was 77 and is survived by his wife and two sons. He held the portfolio of petroleum and natural gas during the UPA–1 regime and also served as the Mumbai Congress president for 22 years.

Murli Deora's last rites would be performed at Chandanwadi Crematorium at 4 PM. Several Congress leaders, including other party members are expected to attend the funeral. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his micro-blogging site to condole the demise of the former union minister.
