A Delhi Court on Thursday rewarded life sentence to Sher Singh Rana who brutally murdered bandit queen turned politician Phoolan Devi in 2001. The court convicted Rana on charges of murder and attempt to murder with common intention. However, he was acquitted of charges of criminal conspiracy and under the Arms Act.
Phoolan Devi was shot dead on July 25, 2001, outside her residence at Ashoka Road by Rana and his associates. Under Section 302/34 IPC and Section 307, the judge has awarded life sentence to Rana with a fine of Rs one lakh. If Rana fails to pay the amount, he will have undergo one year imprisonment.
