Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) passed a proposal today that the shops in the city should not display mannequins of women in bikinis or lingerie.
The decision was taken unanimously in the General Body Meeting of BMC to curb the sex crimes by men. It was proposed by a Shiva Sena’s woman Corporator. The proposal is under discussion now and after it is framed by the Commissioner for implementation, the indecent displays in front of the shops in Mumbai will be removed.
Shops dealing in women’s lingerie display scantily clad mannequins in front of the shops in glass enclosures. The two pieces bikini although worn by a mannequin may disturb the mind of a man and it may lead to commit a sex crime later.
Same thing can happen also in case of indecent scenes in the movies. The impact of a movie on human mind is entirely different and very strong on the minds of the people as Supreme Court observes. It is much more than a bikini seen on a mannequin. The scene of a bikini worn lady coming out from a swimming pool or from a shower shown in a close up shot with all lights off in a theater is bound to leave a strong impression to arouse sexual thoughts as the mind will be completely focused on the screen.
But unfortunately they cannot be banned as easily as the displays in front of a small shop because of the huge amounts involved in movie making to make crores of rupees at stake.
