Times `Person of the year’- apt in the present scenario, Gandhi remembered

Times have always been phenomenal in creating an identity at the end of each year of the major issue troubling the global platform. This time it is equally important as the globe is undergoing series of protest from Middle East to Asia, Europe to America and literally everywhere on earth. It could be due to gloominess in the markets or the disastrous rule. Protesting has become the global formula to achieve desired objective for mass consensus. At this time the world over one must remember the father of non- violence protests Mahatma Gandhi. His act set India turn republic and has shown the right path for trillions across to voice their concerns.
Getting back to the local scenario the country is undergoing various protests across the cross sections of the nation on vivid formats. If Kashmir protests against human attacks, Koodankulam cries for anti-nuke, if Anna Hazare voices concern about corruption then Telangana wails for separate state, if common man cries foul for sky rocketing prices then traders’ voice against FDI. So protests have been the order of the day even in our country. This year’s Time nomination remembers the Mahatma world over, if not directly at least indirectly.
The managing editor of the magazine says the person is meant to represent both men and women around the world who have brought about change.
Although the focus is on the protests in the Middle East.... the United State's occupy movement does figure in. The runner-up this year was Admiral William McRaven.
He's the three-star general who commanded the helicopter assault on Osama Bin Laden's compound in Pakistan earlier this year.
The story of the world's protesters, and the modern media they've used and inspired, is not remotely over. But their story is growing in part because old-fashioned media companies like Time are paying serious attention – and discovering that, like it or not, they are participants themselves in the global issues they choose to cover.
