Five Health Tests for Every Woman

Five Health Tests for Every Woman:- Preferring to work and spending time for family, Indian women tend to put their health on the backburner. Many common health problems in women can be prevented by following five health tests. Here are some of them:

Anaemia:

Anaemia happens to be the common blood disorder in which people lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry enough amount of oxygen to the organs. Women are risk of iron-deficiency anaemia. India carries the highest burden of anaemia despite having an anaemia control programme running for the last 50 years.

Vitamin D deficiency:

Vitamin D deficiency increases the risk of poor bone health and depression in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Women do not get enough Vitamin D as most of them do not get exposed to sunlight. The most accurate way to measure how much vitamin D is in your body is the 25-hydroxy vitamin D blood test.

Calcium deficiency:

Most of the women who get older become prone to osteoporosis (reduced density and quality of bone). This happens because of calcium deficiency. Women should undergo a blood test once a year to check for levels of calcium, albumin and ionized or free calcium.

Pap smears and pelvic exams:

If women are sexually active from the age of 21, they should undergo tests of Pap smears and pelvic exams. A pap smear test is conducted to examine cervical cells. A pelvic exam will generally include an external visual exam to check for irritation, redness, sores.

Mammograms and breast exams:

It is all quite important for women to have a check for breast cancer. A manual exam where a doctor tests for lumps and abnormalities should be made. Mammograms are done every one or two years beginning at age 40 and are recommended.
