Telugu Teen Arrested For Strangling Mother To Death In US

A 17-year old Indian-American boy, Arnav Uppalapati, has been charged and taken into custody for killing his own mother, in North Carolina, United States of America.

Nalini Tellaprolu, a 51-year-old mother of two, who worked at Duke Medical Center, was strangled to death, with a plastic bag over her head, by her own son.

According to reports by North Caroline police, citing the autopsy report, Arnav executed his mother by severely assaulting and wrapping her face in a plastic cover. He later shifted the body to the garage, and he himself raised a complaint with police by dialing 911, after killing his mother.

Nalini’s death was declared as homicide by the Medical Examiner's Office. Her body was covered with bruises and scratches on her face, neck, torso and arms. There were minor blunt force injuries, and the cartilage in her neck was fractured, the report said.

It took more than a year for investigators and the Cary police to gather enough evidence to make an arrest in the Dec. 17, 2015, death case.

Friends of the family were shocked when Cary police charged her son, with her murder. This incident has sent shock waves through western Wake County’s Indian community, according to a Morrisville town councilman.

The incident occurred when Nalini's husband, Babu Uppalapati was on his business tour.

Arnav, told a dispatcher that he found his mother's body when he got home from school. He even told the authorities, that he had last seen her alive the night before. However, it was not clear how police finally broke the case or what motive played a role, behind this incident.

A Morrisville town councilman of Indian descent, Satish Garimella, said, “It is very devastating and there has never been such an incident, where a son has taken the life of his own biological mother.”

Arnav has been charged as an adult, which is customary for crime suspects age 16 and over in North Carolina, and as per US regulations, the boy would be asked to serve lifetime sentence.
