Depressed NRI Stabs Wife 124 Times, Arrested

In a bizarre incident,  Sanjay Nijhawan, an NRI banker stabbed his wife 124 times after she asked divorce.

According to the officials, "the incident occurred on May 21, when Sanjay, (46) attacked his wife Sonita, (38) with an axe and a knife. He killed her in front of their four-year-old son."

The Telegraph quoted, Prosecutor Sally O'Neill, as saying"the NRI has been found guilty of stabbing his wife. Nijhawan has been convicted of manslaughter. The number and nature of her cuts make it clear that she was the victim of a fatal and sustained attack. Sonita had 124 significant injuries including 40 cut and blunt force injuries to her head.”

According to news reports, "Sanjay was suffering from depression for months. Sonita had asked her husband for divorce, which was his breaking point. In a fit of rage, he stabbed her at their Surrey mansion."

The Business Standard quoted Sonita's father, Chander Parkash, as saying,  "We built that house like Fort Knox, with burglar alarms, fire alarms, security to keep her safe from the outside world but little did we know the danger was from the inside. I got a call from Sanjay's mother who hinted that something was wrong. When I went into the kitchen I saw what no father should have to see, my daughter lying in a pool of blood."

"Sonita was taken to the St George's Hospital in Tooting but was declared dead on arrival. Nijhawan had quit his highly-paid job for Barclays Bank in London but had a mortgage of £670,000 (₹5.54 Crore approx)," the Daily Mail reported.
