Little did the 40-year-old Rahul know while boarding the Chennai Express that this trip would prove to be the most eventful journey of his life. Even in his wildest dreams he couldn't have possibly though that wooing the doe-eyed Meenamma on train in “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge”style would land him up in deep mess. But what he deemed as the biggest mistake of his life, soon turns out to be life-changing for him. SRK revives ‘Rahul’ albeit in Rohit Shetty 'ishtyle'. It all starts after Rahul boards the Chennai Express where he meets Meenamma, the daughter of a powerful South don (Sathyaraj), who takes the train to flee from her imposing dad who wants marry her off to a villainous fiance whom she doesn't love (Nikitin Dheer). What unfolds next is a spate of uncanny but extremely funny situations that sees them fall in love in the most bizarre way.
Analysis :
Chennai Express is an out and out entertainer, a cheeky masala fare that packs is loads of fun. Cashing in on the tried-and-tested mantra of love triumphing against all odds, Chennai Express offers colossal doses of fun. It leaves you guffawing, beaming, and jaws-dropped throughout. At no point, does the film lose its steam.
The action is terrific, especially towards the end. The power-packed duel between SRK and Nikitin gives the film a much-needed punch. The stunning cinematography deserves a standing ovation and Vishal-Shekhar's very,very massy number just adds the right amount of zing to the movie. The “lungi” song in the end adds as icing on the cake. Not to miss Sajid-Farhad's belly-bursting dialogues that never fails to tickle.
Performance :
SRK shines on as Rahul, full of life, humor, emotion, action and humor. Rohit drags SRK out of his comfort “romantic” zone and gives his character a comic wash laced with mind-blowing action stunts. SRK is a total surprise here. Deepika Padukone is a revelation in the film. The actress has surely come a long way with Chennai Express. Her diction is so entertaining, it will leave you delightfully amused.
Sathyaraj as Deepika's authoritative father, puts forward a powerful act.. Nikitin Dheer's towering presence adds a lot of weight to the movie. He looks just every bit menacing in his 'Thangabali' avatar.
Final Word:
Chennai Express is yet another feather in Rohit Shetty's cap. The movie lives up to its colossal hype and hoopla.
Entertainment truly can't get bigger than Chennai Express. All the lovers of masala movies, board Chennai Express pronto!
