In a sensational incident, a Tamil film actress Vanitha Vijayakumar landed in a controversy when she tried to kidnap her own daughter from her husband’s home.

Though Vanitha Vijaykumar, daughter of veteran actor Vijayakumar and late actress Manjula, did not literally kidnap the girl, the Alwal police have booked the case, as she refused to return the child even after the expiry of the agreed deadline. The actress was married to businessman Anand Raj 10 years ago but got divorced in 2012. Vanitha reportedly got re-married to a dance master from Tamil industry.

The court handed over the custody of their only girl child to her father, Anand. Accordingly, Anand and his eight-year-old daughter Jainitha shifted to Old Alwal.

Vanitha used to fly down to Hyderabad often to visit her daughter. Inspector of Police from Alwal, T. Anand Reddy said, “In the first week of April, Vanitha had taken her daughter Jainitha to her home in Chennai with the consent of her ex-husband. As per their agreement, she was to return the child last week. But she did not keep her word. She also did not respond to the calls of Anandraj, who then lodged a complaint with us.”

Anand then lodged a complaint claiming that Vanitha had kidnapped her daughter. The police booked a case of kidnap and illegal confinement against Vanitha and the child has since been restored to her father.
