Music composer Ilaiyaraaja has sent legal notice to the 'Showman of South India' director Shankar for using one of Ilaiyaraaja's popular songs in Shankar's latest film 'Kappal' without informing or taking prior permission. Ilaiyaraaja's chartbuster song 'Ooru Veetu Ooru Vanthu' from 'Karakatakaran' was reused in 'Kappal' starring Vaibhav which is ready for a release.
The legal notice asked the makers of 'Kappal' to remove the song from the film and provide required compensation. 'Kappal' is produced by Shankar on 'S Pictures' banner which is directed by Karthik G. Krish who is former associate of Shankar. Natarajan Sankaran has scored the music of the film. The legal notice were also served to the director Krish and co-producer of the film.
In response to the legal notice, 'S Pictures' replied that they acquired the rights of the particular song from the music label which released the album of Karakatakaran into the market. They also clarified that all the process was done legally and has nothing to do with copyrights issue.
