With the closing downs of the movie theaters going on in Telangana Region, the cinema industry in the State is going to get a blow from the scarcity of exhibitors that is going to follow. In the recent past about 175 theaters were closed down out which 50 are permanently closed without any hope of reopening.
Murali Mohan, the Secretary of Telangana Film Chamber explains the reason for the closures. The exhibitors are earning upto Rs.1.00 lakh per month where as land costs in the rural areas have gone up to Rs.15 Crores. But if the movies go on failing at the box office, the exhibitors do not get enough money to manage the show.
The recent flops of the movies of the big heroes made the exhibitors in the Telangana region disheartened. For that reason, many of them are converting the theaters into godowns or commercial places like function-halls or rice mills. If the trend continues a decrease in the revenue on movies will happen. And also the trend makes it more difficult to the small movies to get a theater to exhibit their movie.
