Viswaroopam: Kamal approaches competition commission!

The Magnum opus from Dr Kamal Hassan's own production company, Viswaroopam faced several serious hurdles for release. The film that was scheduled for the release during this holidays slot was now postponed to Jan 25.

The delay was due to the stiff opposition by Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association (TNTOA). Irked by the opposition, the versatile actor registered a petition with the Competition Commission, and the hearing would be scheduled in a couple of days.

Actually the film was scheduled for January 11 and the multi-faceted actor cum producer also planned the screen a DTH premier on January 10 at 9.30 pm. But this did not go well with the association that felt that this ulterior move, by the actor, would hamper their revenues.

On the other hand, the actor cum filmmaker expressed that this move would curb piracy. In fact the 150 crores film was to be released in Telugu, Tamil and in Hindi as Viswaroop. Almost all the DTH companies, bought the rights of the film and also opened bookings to the premiere.

But the whole strategy bombed due to the delay. Finally the TNTOA allowed to screen the film on January 25, after the actor cum story creator, agreed to hold the DTH premiere by a week after the actual release on screen. (Wishesh AarKay)
