Samsung Unveils Its Latest Flagship Galaxy S8/S8+ In India

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, which was showcased by the company, in New York last month, was launched in India.

The South Korean manufacturer, has set the Galaxy S8 launch event in New Delhi, starting at 12PM IST.

The Galaxy S8/S8+ are powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC, while the Indian variant will however, be running on Samsung’s in-house built Exynos 8895 SoC. The Snapdragon variant, will be available only in selected regions, including the United States. A recent benchmark tests showed similar performance in both the variants. Pre-orders have already begun on e-commerce retailer, Flipkart. Ahead of the launch, Samsung had started a Galaxy S8 pre-registration page, initially wherein users can register to receive notifications regarding the smart phone. The company will start shipping the new phones from May 7, says sources.

The Galaxy S8, is available at a price of Rs 57,900 for the Indian market, whereas it is Rs 64,900 for the bigger S8+. And as for the US market, the Samsung Galaxy S8, is priced as low as USD 720, and the Galaxy S8+ at USD 840.

In terms of specifications, both are identical smart phones, with the only difference being dimensions, battery capacity, and screen size. Samsung calls the display as the “Infinity Display” - featuring dual-edge curved display with minimal bezels on the top and bottom with 18.5:9 aspect ration. The Ultra High Definition (UHD) Alliance, has certified the displays as Mobile HDR Premium.

Other features include, connectivity options like 4G LTE (Cat. 16), Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4GHz, 5GHz), Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C, NFC, and GPS. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, gyroscope, heart rate sensor, magnetometer, and proximity sensor. It also supports Samsung Pay, with NFC and MST connectivity. Both the smart phones also support wireless charging as well as fast charging with the S8/S8+ packing 3000mAh and 3500mAh batteries respectively.
