Three Indians, Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and P Kashyap, have advanced into the third round of the Badminton World Championships 2013 being held in China.
While Saina sailed into the next round, Sindhu has fought her way into it. Saina finished the match in a little less than half an hour, but Sindhu had to sweat it out for an hour. On the other hand, Kashyap flew through with minimal effort as his opponent had to withdraw. Petr Koukal of Czech Republic suffered a knee injury.
The 10th seeded Sindhu will next face defending champion and world number 2 Yihan Wang. Saina Nehwal is currently the world number 3 in Badminton.
Chief national coach P Gopichand was quoted by DNA as saying that Saina was spot on. “She looked comfortable and played really well,” he said. Gopichand added that Saina’s last-16 match against 15th seed Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand 'is not going to be easy.' “Though the Thai has not beaten Saina before, she can be an aggressive and tricky,” the coach noted.
