Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar adds another jewel to his crown, today, as he takes oath as the Rajya Sabha MP. The new Congress Member will take oath in the chamber of the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Hamid Ansari. Sachin’s name was proposed by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh along with Bollywood actor Rekha and businesswoman Anu Aga in April for the Upper House of the Parliament. The President Pratibha Patil had approved the names. While the later two had sworn-in in May, Sachin was tied up with his IPL assignment, which ended on May 27.
Indian Skipper M S Dhoni felt elated as his senior team mate embarks on a new innings. In his wishes he said, "This (Rajya Sabha) is a new avenue for him and I am sure he will do well and contribute there also." He added, "I would like to wish him all the very best. He has been contributing in cricket and has done well in every field."
Five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand was happy for Sachin. He said, "I hope he (Tendulkar) enjoys his role and he is able to do it very well. It's a big step for him and I think he will enjoy it."
However not all were happy over the legend’s appointment, most critics felt that the hundredth centurion must be honored with `Bharat Ratna’, instead. Sachin was never into controversies and aligned with none on field or off field. He stood by the median in his entire career. But with the new position he would be aligned as a Congress man.
