Kolkata Knight Riders toppled the Delhi Dare Devils on their home turf to cruise ahead on the points table. The 51st match of the ongoing Indian Premier league fifth season, played at Feroze Shah Kotla, Delhi saw two teams with Skippers from the city. Both Virendra Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were local kids and enjoyed equal support on Monday. But it was Gambhir’s team that out played the home team to seal a six wicket win. In the process Kolkata which was in the second position on the points table cruises ahead and pushes Delhi down to No.2, while reaching the top position.
Delhi won the toss and elected to bat. While the top order evenly performed the tail enders collapsed. The prominent at the willow show were Irfan Patan who scored 36 runs and the Lankan Mahela Jeyawardene scored 30 runs. Delhi posted a total of 153/9 on the board in the stipulated twenty overs. On the bowling fronts for the KKR, Kallis and Narine bowled well and hauled two wickets each.
The Gambhir team walked in with sheer confidence and made 154/4 before the 19th over and sealed the triumph. Solid Knock by the top three batsmen made the target look like peanuts and the Kolkata walked away with honors. Brendon McCallum, Gambhir and Kallis scored 56, 36 and 30 runs. The bowling of the home team was also not very much commendable, only Umesh was a little better of the lot and grabbed two wickets. Kallis was the man of the match for his all round performance. Kolkata are right now on top of the points table with 17 points and Delhi right behind with 16 points. Sharukh must really thank his wits for making Gambhir lead the team.
